Expertise Built on a Half-Century of Evolution and Growth

Mitsubishi UFJ Investor Services & Banking, has built on its initial asset services business serving Japanese custody clients to offer a broad range of investment services in areas including alternative funds, says the leadership team of MIBL.

What is the background of your company, and what are its activities in Luxembourg?
Mitsubishi UFJ Investor Services & Banking (Luxembourg) was founded in April 1974. It is a subsidiary of Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking, which is in turn part of the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, created two decades ago from the merger of Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group and UFJ Holdings. Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group is one of Japan’s and world’s largest banking groups with $ 2.9 trillion in assets. The Luxembourg company is a global custodian servicing more than 537 client relationships comprising 1,585 accounts, 121 sub-funds, and $565 billion in assets under custody.

How have your clients’ needs evolved since the Luxembourg business was established half a century ago?
Mitsubishi UFJ Investor Services & Banking initially provided banking and fund management services to Japanese customers and investors in traditional funds. Over the decades, following various acquisitions made by the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, the company gradually diversified its customer base, servicing a growing clientele of non-Japanese investors, as well as becoming established in the alternative fund market, in partnership with its sister company, MUFG Fund Services, under the global brand – MUFG Investor Services. Today the Luxembourg company offers a growing range of solution-oriented services that extend from global custody, fund administration and transfer agency to foreign exchange, depository, securities lending and banking services.

“The global footprint of the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group gives customers access to a comprehensive and evolving range of services that helps mitigate their risks and boost their efficiency.”

How does your business differentiate itself in the market?

The Luxembourg business benefits from extensive global footprint 17 locations of MUFG Investor Services and the partnership with Citibank, as Global Custodian. This ensures that customers have access to a comprehensive and evolving range of services that help them to mitigate their risks and boost their efficiency. Supported by the group as a whole, Mitsubishi UFJ Investor Services & Banking offers on an ongoing basis high added value advisory services and operational solutions to its customers, drawing on a high level of expertise, and supports products and services for the ultimate success of its customers. Part of the company’s DNA is to uphold the trust placed in the company for always putting customers first, while continuing to develop the high ethical standards and expertise that the groups and its constituent companies have painstakingly built over their long history.
