Ines Hansson Marsaud (Artist): Art in modern workplaces

Ines Hansson Marsaud, an international artist, explores the power of abstract art in modern workplaces. She discusses how art enhances creativity, well-being, and productivity, while also sharing insights on fostering a thriving artistic community in Luxembourg. Interview.

Can you present yourself in a few words?
I am Ines, an international artist specializing in custom made, abstract art for offices and homes. Originally from Brazil and Sweden, I moved to Luxembourg 8 years ago, and live with my husband and two sons of 3 and 5 years old. I am a self-taught artist who believes in using our skills for good. I have lived in ten countries, most recently Norway, I speak ten languages, and have a background in economics. I worked two years in the industrial sector and six years in finance, which has helped me understand the corporate world and the role of art in the workplace. I’ve painted my whole life, but during Covid, painting every day was essential for me- it was my way of moving while staying indoors. Two years ago, I decided to fully pursue my idea of bringing well being into the office, through art. To me, abstract art has no judgement; there are no mistakes, and the process of creating is very liberating. My curiosity to test new ways and having a learning-by-doing mindset, has brought me here to create art, with a story, for diverse audiences.

How do you want your art to impact the workplace and other people’s lives?
Today, the modern workplace is much more than just computers set up in a bland black and white space. It has evolved into a vibrant environment that prioritizes creativity, collaboration, and overall well-being. By conscientiously integrating art and color, I want to influence the workplace’s employees with increased happiness and inspiration, and a feeling of being valued. It is scientifically proven that art also increases employees productivity as a result of wellbeing. By investing in the workplace with art- seen as “the cherry on top”, I also aim to give my client’s clients a first class impression. When I have a commission for a painting, I meet to see the space, get to know the values and the energy, decide together on colors and create the artwork with this in mind.

How can Luxembourg attract and retain artists in its creative industry?
To cultivate a thriving artistic community in Luxembourg, a greater emphasis should be placed on integrating more art into early education. With this, Luxembourg can cultivate a population that values and seeks out artistic expression throughout their lives. This increased demand will naturally attract more artists to the country, fostering a vibrant cultural landscape. The historical example of Rome and the patronage of artists like Michelangelo demonstrates the powerful impact of demand on attracting and sustaining artistic talent. By fostering a culture that values artistic contributions, Luxembourg can position itself as a desirable destination for artists seeking to live from, and improve, what they do best.
