Thomas Lentz, secretary general of FEDAS Luxembourg, the employers' association representing over 200 organisations in the social sector, presents its mission, current challenges, and priorities. Interview.
FEDAS Luxembourg is the leading employers' association representing Luxembourg's social sector. Bringing together more than 200 member organizations and representing over 15,000 professionals, FEDAS Luxembourg serves as the collective voice of organizations providing essential social, health, educational, and inclusion services across the country. Our mission is to strengthen the social sector by supporting our members through professional training, organizational development, sector-wide cooperation, and high-quality advisory services. At the same time, we represent our members' interests in dialogue with public authorities and other stakeholders, helping to shape policies that promote a resilient, innovative, and sustainable social sector. Ultimately, FEDAS Luxembourg works to ensure that organizations can focus on what matters most: delivering high-quality services to people in vulnerable situations while contributing to social cohesion and the well-being of Luxembourg as a whole.
Luxembourg's social sector is operating in an increasingly complex environment. Social service providers are confronted with growing administrative and regulatory requirements, rising cybersecurity risks, workforce shortages, digital transformation, and increasing expectations regarding governance, transparency, and accountability. At the same time, demand for social services continues to grow as society faces demographic change, mental health challenges, social inequalities, and the need for greater inclusion. Organizations must therefore innovate continuously while maintaining the high quality of care and support they provide. Helping our members successfully navigate these challenges is one of FEDAS Luxembourg's core priorities. We provide practical support, training, guidance, and opportunities for collaboration so that organizations can strengthen their resilience and focus on their social mission. An important step in reinforcing cooperation with public authorities was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between FEDAS Luxembourg and seven Luxembourg ministries. The Memorandum establishes a structured framework for dialogue and reflects a shared commitment to transparency, mutual trust, innovation, and long-term sustainability. It demonstrates that the Government and the social sector recognise that today's complex societal challenges can only be addressed through close partnership and continuous dialogue.
"A strong, professional, and innovative social sector is essential for Luxembourg's economic prosperity, social cohesion, and quality of life."
FEDAS Luxembourg's ambition is to further strengthen the social sector's capacity to respond to tomorrow's challenges while increasing its visibility and influence within Luxembourg's public policy landscape. One of our key priorities is the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding with the Government, transforming this framework into concrete actions that improve cooperation, simplify administrative processes, and support innovation throughout the sector. We are also investing in the future by expanding our services in professional training, digital transformation, cybersecurity awareness, governance, and organizational development, enabling our members to build resilient and future-ready
